Where to Stay in Bangkok: Luxury Hotels & Best Areas

If there's one thing I've learned living in Thailand, it's where you stay in can make or break your trip. The traffic in Bangkok is no joke, and when we came the first time we were in taxi’s for more than an hour or more at a time.

Picking the right location isn't just a nice-to-have, it's the difference between actually enjoying your trip and losing half of it to being in traffic jams. So if you're planning something special, or just like staying in gorgeous hotels with impeccable service, I've pulled together some of my favourite luxury and unique hotels in the city. These aren't just beautiful (though trust me, they are), they're also in some of the best spots, best views, and the experiences that actually make Bangkok unforgettable.

1) Capella Bangkok

From the moment you arrive, you're greeted with such a warm and genuine welcome. The staff here are so attentive and make sure to cater to your every need.

We spent our first afternoon enjoying brunch on their gorgeous outdoor terrace, overlooking the Chao Phraya River at Phra Nakhon (order the massaman duck, khao soi, and their signature cherry cocktail!)

The suites feel like private sanctuaries, so spacious, with incredibly comfortable beds, a luxurious bathroom with a deep soak bath and complimentary bath salts, panoramic views of the boats sailing past on the river, and your own outdoor terrace with a sala and jacuzzi plunge pool, perfect for watching Bangkok's iconic golden sunsets.

Beyond the room, there's a tranquil spa, a fully equipped gym, and a gorgeous pool to lounge at with a coconut in hand. Don't miss the complimentary boat transfers, they make getting around the city effortless (and pretty magical)

2) The Standard

Have you ever seen a hotel with so many unique rooms?? This is The Standard Bangkok, part of the iconic King Power Mahanakon building.

If you didn't know, the Mahanakon is a 78-story, 314-meter skyscraper, home to the famous Sky Walk glass tray, 360-degree views, and the Michelin guide-listed restaurant Ojo. Ojo's interior alone is worth the visit: think warm gold accents against plush pink furnishings, bright pink chairs dotted between cacti and greenery, and a sun-soaked terrace that feels more like a chic dessert bar than a restaurant.

The Standard hotel suits the Mahanakon building perfectly, it feels just as immersive as the Skyverse digital art exhibition downstairs, with every room coming to life in its own bright, unique style. Add a fully equipped gym, an outdoor pool and bar, and a delicious breakfast buffet to enjoy between exploring the rooms, and you have every reason to add this one to your Bangkok hotel list.

3) Dusit Thani

Dusit Thani is another level of gorgeous, as soon as you walk in you're greeted with an enormous, beautifully furnished entrance, and staff who treat you like royalty.

With incredible views of Lumphini Park, you get a rare sense of calm while still being right in the middle of the city's energy. Step off the ground floor and you're straight into Central Park, Bangkok's newest lifestyle mall. Or, head up to the 7th floor for a walk along Dusit Arun Roof Park, an 11,200 square metre green space, without even needing to leave the hotel.

With elegant Thai-inspired interiors, incredible dining options, such as our favourite, The Spire (order the crab croquettes!), and direct access to both the BTS and MRT, Dusit Thani is an incredibly luxurious experience that you'll be relieved to come back to after a busy day in the city.

  • Central Bangkok: Right in the heart of it, overlooking Lumphini Park

  • ICONSIAM: approx. 20-25 min by car/BTS

  • Airport: approx. 25-30 minutes by car from Suvarnabhumi, roughly 35-40 min from Don Mueang

  • Closest BTS: Sala Daeng, directly connected to the hotel (also connects to Silom MRT)

4) Anantara Siam Bangkok

Anantara Siam Bangkok is one of those hotels that just feels effortless, with traditional Thai architecture and lush gardens that make you forget you're in the middle of the busy city.

Even though you're right in the thick of Bangkok's best shopping and dining, the moment you step inside it's calm, elegant, and luxurious.You're in the perfect location, just steps from CentralWorld and Siam Paragon, with my favourite park, Lumpini Park only minutes away too. There's a real variety when it comes to dining here, think Italian at Biscotti, authentic Thai at Spice Market, Latin American flavours at Guilty, and Japanese at Shintaro, plus the Sunday brunch, which is genuinely one of the best in Bangkok, packed with fresh seafood and an incredible spread.

5) The Peninsula Bangkok

The Peninsula Bangkok sits right on the bank of the Chao Phraya River, and honestly, the views alone make it worth the stay. Our room had a dressing room, sofa and seating area, electronic curtains, mood lighting, and a bathroom with a deep soak bathtub. We also had a daily fruit plate waiting in our room, a small touch that made the stay feel that much more thoughtful.

Getting around is so easy too, the elegant, free Peninsula Boat connects you straight to Taksin Skytrain Station and ICONSIAM in just 5 minutes, so you're never far from the city.

Breakfast was so delicious, with a huge variety, and we loved the spa, sauna, outdoor pool and gym. We were here on a short break, and honestly, we didn't want to leave the hotel!

6) The Siam

The Siam feels less like a hotel and more like stepping into a private museum. Set on the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok's Dusit district, this ultra-luxury resort combines Art Deco elegance with rich Thai antiques, spacious suites and pool villas, high ceilings, antique artworks, and your own personal butler, making it one of the most exclusive, tranquil retreats in the city.

Dine at Chon Thai Restaurant, or catch the golden sunset aboard the hotel's teak Sala Thai boat. Don't miss a visit to Opium Spa, the vinyl library, the riverside infinity pool, and the private pier.
